In a major push to advance financial inclusion and extend banking services to underserved communities, Centenary Bank and Interswitch Uganda have launched the Quickteller Agent Service, a new solution aimed at bringing secure, accessible, and convenient banking closer to all Ugandans.
The launch event, held earlier today, marked a significant milestone in the longstanding partnership between the two institutions. It comes at a time when Uganda’s financial ecosystem is undergoing rapid transformation through digital innovation and strategic collaborations.
Delivering his keynote address, Dr. Fabian Kasi, the Managing Director of Centenary Bank, reiterated the Bank’s unwavering commitment to financial inclusion and equitable service delivery. He praised the collaboration with Interswitch, describing it as a powerful partnership built on mutual values and a shared vision for inclusive banking.
“As you can see, our plan may be characterised as being ambitious, but we know that we can’t do this alone,” said Dr. Kasi. “We believe in the power of partnerships, and that’s why we work with like-minded institutions like Interswitch. They have worked with us before, and we are happy that they continue to walk with us in ventures that benefit the people of Uganda.”
This year marks a new chapter in that collaboration, with Interswitch now formally onboarded as one of Centenary Bank’s corporate agents under the bank’s agent banking model. Through this model, over 20,000 Interswitch agents across the country will offer essential banking services to customers, significantly expanding Centenary Bank’s national footprint.

Services available through the Quickteller Agent network include cash deposits, withdrawals, utility bill payments, school fees payments, and more — all available at convenient locations within communities where traditional bank branches may be limited or absent.
Dr. Kasi explained that Centenary Bank’s motivation goes far beyond profit margins or operational scale. Instead, the bank prioritizes the real and daily needs of ordinary people.
“We are in business to serve real people doing real business,” he stated. “Like the market vendor in a rural area who no longer has to walk for miles to get to a bank branch, or a small business owner who now has access to financial services outside regular hours. In today’s fast-moving world, convenience is not a luxury — it’s an expectation. That’s what we’re committed to delivering.”
He emphasized that technology and partnerships are key enablers in Centenary Bank’s broader strategy to foster economic empowerment and social inclusion.
“At Centenary Bank, we see ourselves as partners in involvement — committed to reaching the whole of Uganda, especially those in underserved communities. This partnership is a big step towards that goal,” Dr. Kasi added.
He concluded his remarks by thanking the Interswitch Uganda team for their continued partnership and reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to seeking collaborations that promote inclusive growth and strengthen the national financial ecosystem.
“To our customers, banking has just gotten easier,” he said. “Looking ahead, Centenary Bank will continue to pursue partnerships that bring positive change, promote financial inclusion, and enable Uganda to grow both socially and economically.”
Also speaking at the event was Mr. Moris Sseguya, General Country Manager of Interswitch Uganda, who echoed Dr. Kasi’s sentiments and lauded the strategic nature of the partnership.
“This strategic partnership with Centenary Bank means we are expanding the banking footprint that all Centenary Bank customers can access by close to 50 percent,” Mr. Sseguya announced. “Customers will enjoy nearly all the services they would at a traditional branch or outlet — now closer to home.”
He emphasized that the initiative was designed to unlock additional convenience, reliability, and financial access, especially in remote or underserved parts of the country.

“At Interswitch, we’re proud to deepen our commitment to Uganda — our home — through this partnership. Together, we are working to make everyday banking effortless and inclusive, building a stronger financial ecosystem for all,” he said.
The launch was also attended by Mr. Simon Senyonga, Acting General Manager for Retail, Banking, and Distribution at Centenary Bank, alongside executive and technical teams from both institutions.
The Quickteller Agent Service is a practical and timely response to the evolving financial needs of Ugandans, especially in rural and peri-urban areas. It aligns with broader national development goals of expanding access to formal financial services and boosting economic resilience through digital transformation.
As the partnership takes root, Centenary Bank and Interswitch have signaled their readiness to continue exploring innovations that close the financial access gap, empower communities, and support inclusive economic growth.
