Malawi Airlines has announced a major expansion of its regional network with the introduction of a new direct service linking Entebbe International Airport in Uganda to Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi. The route, which becomes operational on 15 December 2025, is expected to significantly enhance travel, commerce, and cultural ties between the two countries and the wider Southern and Eastern African region.
The airline described the new service as a strategic addition to its growing portfolio, aimed at improving connectivity for both business and leisure travelers. By offering a nonstop connection between the two capital cities, Malawi Airlines hopes to facilitate smoother travel for passengers who have previously had to rely on indirect routes or lengthy layovers to move between Uganda and Malawi.
The flights will operate four times a week, with departures from Lilongwe scheduled for late afternoon and arrivals in Entebbe timed for early evening. In the opposite direction, passengers departing Entebbe will benefit from early morning flights that allow them to arrive in Lilongwe with enough time to connect to onward regional destinations. The schedule is designed to integrate seamlessly with Malawi Airlines’ existing network, particularly routes connecting Lilongwe to major hubs such as Johannesburg, Harare, and Lusaka. This is expected to make the new service especially attractive for travelers seeking convenient multi-country itineraries within Africa.
Malawi Airlines will deploy its Boeing 737-700 aircraft on the Entebbe–Lilongwe route, ensuring passengers enjoy a comfortable travel experience with modern onboard amenities.
The airline reiterated its commitment to providing reliable and customer-centered services as it works to strengthen its footprint across the continent.
In a statement, the national carrier highlighted the broader significance of the new link, noting that improved air connectivity plays a vital role in fostering economic growth, investment, and tourism. With Uganda being a key player in East Africa and Malawi serving as an important gateway to the Southern African region, the airline believes this route will open new opportunities for collaboration in various sectors, including trade, agriculture, and cultural exchange.
Passengers can already book seats on the new service through the Malawi Airlines website, mobile application, sales offices, and authorized travel agents across the region. The launch marks another milestone in the airline’s ongoing efforts to expand its network and offer more travel options to its customers.
