Uganda has officially stepped onto the global technology stage with the launch of the world’s largest 116-inch RGB Mini-LED TV by Hisense, an event that blended innovation, community impact, and national progress. The unveiling, held on September 19, 2025, showcased more than just a giant screen—it symbolized Uganda’s growing embrace of technology as a tool for education, entertainment, and development.
The ceremony attracted high-profile government officials, with Third Deputy Prime Minister Rukia Nakadama presiding as guest of honour. She was joined by Dr Joyce Moriku Kaducu, the State Minister for Primary Education, who emphasized how technological advancements can shape Uganda’s education sector and prepare learners for a knowledge-driven future.
At 116 inches, the Hisense RGB Mini-LED TV represents a breakthrough in big-screen engineering. Powered by the brand’s proprietary TriChroma RGB Mini-LED technology, the screen delivers unmatched colour accuracy, dazzling brightness, and superior contrast. French audio specialists Devialet and Dolby Atmos collaborated on the sound system, ensuring an immersive experience for movies, sports, and gaming.

This same innovation has already won global acclaim, having been lauded at the prestigious CES Consumer Electronics Show in California. Its arrival in Uganda places the country among the earliest adopters of cutting-edge television technology in Africa.
Despite its enormous size, the Hisense 116-inch screen is 20 percent more energy-efficient than conventional televisions. It also includes a solar-powered remote control, a nod to eco-friendly design and sustainability. This innovation resonates with Uganda’s increasing focus on renewable energy solutions and environmental responsibility.

The initiative aims to strengthen digital learning by equipping schools for online lessons in core subjects such as mathematics, science, and the arts. Dr. Kaducu welcomed the donation, noting that it would help bridge the digital divide and better prepare students for careers in technology and innovation.
“This initiative will not only improve classroom experiences but also empower learners with access to tools that define the future,” Dr. Kaducu stated.
Third Deputy Prime Minister Nakadama praised Hisense for pairing innovation with social responsibility. She highlighted the importance of partnerships between private companies and government institutions in driving national development goals, particularly Uganda’s Vision 2040.
“Progress requires strong collaboration between the private sector and government. Hisense has demonstrated that technology can serve both commercial success and community impact,” Nakadama said.
Analysts see the launch as more than a product unveiling; it is a positioning statement for Uganda as a rising hub for technological adoption and innovation in Africa. With global tech firms increasingly looking at emerging markets, the Hisense launch places Uganda on the radar as a country willing to embrace futuristic solutions while aligning them with national priorities such as education and sustainability.
As the giant screen dazzled audiences during the launch event, it symbolized both the scale of innovation and the scope of opportunities ahead for Uganda. From digital learning in classrooms to entertainment in homes, the Hisense launch has marked the beginning of Uganda’s “big-screen era,” one that is both aspirational and transformative.
