FAMReports Opportunity Desk | December 2025
The Airtel Africa Foundation has opened applications for its 2026 University Tech Scholarship Cohort, offering a fully funded opportunity to academically strong but financially constrained Ugandan students pursuing technology related degrees. The initiative targets first year undergraduate students, aiming to remove financial barriers that often limit access to quality higher education in science and technology fields.
Through this scholarship, Airtel Africa Foundation will support 20 exceptional students admitted to selected universities in Uganda, reinforcing its commitment to digital inclusion and youth empowerment across Africa.
Eligible Universities and Programmes
Applicants must be admitted as first year students to one of the following recognised institutions: Makerere University, ISBAT University, Uganda Christian University, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, or Kyambogo University.
The scholarship focuses on priority technology programmes that are critical to Uganda’s digital and innovation ecosystem. Eligible courses include Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Cybersecurity, and Artificial Intelligence. These disciplines align with the growing demand for skilled professionals in the technology sector both locally and globally.
Who Can Apply
To qualify, applicants must be Ugandan nationals entering Year One Semester One and must not be holding any other scholarship, including government sponsored schemes. Candidates are required to meet minimum university entry requirements, including at least two principal passes at UACE obtained in one sitting.

A key consideration is demonstrated financial need, with applicants expected to clearly show how financial constraints could hinder their university education if support is not provided. This focus ensures that the scholarship reaches students who need it most.
What the Scholarship Covers
Successful candidates will receive a comprehensive support package covering tuition fees, accommodation, academic materials, and a fixed stipend to cater for core course related needs. By addressing both academic and welfare costs, the scholarship allows beneficiaries to focus fully on their studies without financial pressure.
Application Timeline and Preparation
The application deadline is December 18, 2025. Prospective applicants are advised to prepare key documents early, including their university admission letter, UACE results or certificates, national identification, and a well written motivation letter. The motivation letter should clearly explain the applicant’s financial situation and be supported by relevant documentation where possible.
