Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma has been named the next Omukama of Tooro, following the death of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
The announcement was made this evening at Karuziika Palace by leaders of the Ababiito clan, in the presence of members of the royal clan and the 21 member succession committee.
Msgr Isiah Mayombo read the announcement on behalf of the Ababiito clan, stating that Prince Kijanangoma had been selected following consultations and due diligence by the committee tasked with identifying a suitable candidate for the Tooro throne.
ABABIITO CLAN MAKES DECISION
According to a resolution signed by 19 members of the committee, the Ababiito General Meeting constituted the process to identify a suitable candidate following the death of King Oyo.

The committee said it undertook consultations, due diligence and consideration before settling on Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma.
The resolution states that the authority to elect the King of Tooro lies with the Ababiito clan and that the committee acted under the leadership of Omujwera Musuuga, described as the head of the Ababiito clan.
The committee subsequently resolved that Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma be enthroned as the new Omukama of Tooro.
WHO IS PRINCE KIJANANGOMA?
Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma is the son of the late Prince Christopher Paul Kijanangoma and grandson of the late Omukama George David Rukidi III.
His selection places him at the centre of the next chapter of the Tooro Kingdom following the death of King Oyo.
ENTHRONEMENT TO FOLLOW TRADITIONS
The succession committee said the enthronement of Prince Kijanangoma will be conducted in accordance with the traditions and customs of the Tooro Kingdom.
The formal enthronement is therefore expected to follow the established cultural procedures of the kingdom.

The announcement marks a major development in the succession process and is expected to attract significant attention from members of the royal family, the Ababiito clan and Tooro subjects.
KING OYO’S REIGN COMES TO AN END
The succession process follows the death of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV on August 27, 2026.
His death brought to an end his reign as the Omukama of Tooro and triggered the process of identifying his successor.
The Ababiito succession committee has now endorsed Prince Kijanangoma as the candidate to take over the throne.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
The immediate focus now shifts to the formal enthronement of Prince Kijanangoma and the cultural procedures that will accompany his installation as Omukama.
The development is also likely to generate further public discussion concerning the succession process, particularly given the importance of the Tooro throne and the role of the Ababiito clan in selecting the king.
FAMReports will continue to follow the developments surrounding the Tooro Kingdom and provide updates as the enthronement process unfolds.
This is a developing story.
